Biography :
Dr. Lucio Souza Gonçalves, DDS, MSc, PhD is a Brazilian dental academic and researcher specializing in Periodontology and Oral Microbiology. He serves as a professor and postgraduate researcher at Estácio de Sá University, Brazil, and is affiliated with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He earned his dental degree in 1988, a Master’s degree in Periodontology in 2000, and a PhD in Oral Microbiology in 2006 from UFRJ. He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2014, focusing on the oral microbiome. His research interests include periodontal diseases, oral microbiology, dental infections, and the relationship between oral health and systemic conditions, including HIV-associated periodontal disease.
